"City Cycling" Successfully Completed in the Ludwigsburg District

For the tenth time, cyclists from the district took part in the annual “STADTRADELN” cycling competition from July 1 to 21—time to take stock: 10,753 cyclists in about 650 teams rode 2.5 million kilometers by bike, thereby preventing 414,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions. In doing so, they surpassed the results of previous years.

The event kicked off with a bike ride from Ludwigsburg to Bietigheim-Bissingen. This was followed by numerous other events, including a 24-hour bike ride, a bike scavenger hunt, and an inclusive bike tour to mark the 150th anniversary of Karlshöhe.

“I am very pleased with the high turnout and the outstanding results from STADTRADELN. The many kilometers cycled show that cycling is becoming a natural part of everyday life for more and more people—as an attractive, economical, and climate-friendly form of mobility. I would like to sincerely thank all participants for their enthusiasm and for taking part,” said District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.

Background information on STADTRADELN and the RadKULTUR initiative

STADTRADELN is a campaign organized by Klima-Bündnis Services. The organization complements the structure of the European city network Klima-Bündnis. It brings together advisory services, campaigns, and data collection services to help implement municipal climate protection measures. The campaign has been running since 2008 and, last year alone, got more than 220,000 people in Baden-Württemberg on their bikes.

Goal: To encourage more people to use bicycles in their daily lives

All participating municipalities are supported by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transportation. The RadKULTUR initiative covers the participation fees and provides promotional materials and templates. The initiative’s goal is to encourage more people to use bicycles in their daily lives—for their own health and for environmentally friendly mobility. Through creative campaigns and events, it makes cycling visible, tangible, and attractive.
