Light rail: start of planning preparations

The special purpose association for light rail in the district of Ludwigsburg, which is supported by the (neighboring) municipalities and the district, launched the tender for the planning services for the new light rail system at its administrative board meeting on May 18. By unanimously accepting a corresponding offer, a bidding consortium of VWI GmbH from Stuttgart and bic from Frei-burg (im Breisgau) will (in future) prepare the planning and tender documents for the low-floor light rail system based on the current resolution of the so-called "Mitfall 1".

With the awarding of the contract "to support the tendering of the planning services" by the Administrative Board, the project partners have once again committed to the implementation of the overall project. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier says: "The decision shows that we are getting closer to the light rail project bit by bit."

The Ludwigsburg light rail system is based on the reactivation of the Markgröningen line, which is already to be implemented as part of a preliminary operation in accordance with the valid agreement paper between the project partner municipalities and the State Ministry of Transport. This decision to award the contract takes into account the modularity of the project, which enables the Markgröningen railroad to be reactivated in advance.
