Closure of the Engelberg tunnel: effects on the operation of the Strohgäubahn

There may be delays on the Strohgäubahn due to the diversionary traffic following the closure of the Engelberg tunnel. The Strohgäubahn will continue to run every half hour, and the 07:07 school train from Heimerdingen will also run again without restrictions. However, punctuality cannot be guaranteed in all cases. Any timetable changes can be called up via the VVS app and are also shown on the digital passenger information displays (DFI) on the platforms. The Zweckverband Strohgäubahn asks passengers for their understanding for the current situation and recommends checking the current passenger information before setting off.

A green train with yellow accents, labeled "bwegt" and "Strohgäubahn," is parked at a station. The design emphasizes mobility and regional transportation. The platform shows a clear view of the train's side and entryway.

The massive traffic disruptions that occurred on Wednesday as a result of the closure of the Engelberg tunnel in the Gerlingen/Ditzingen area also led to restrictions on the operation of the Strohgäubahn. The volume of traffic on the alternative routes is still very high, but the situation has calmed down somewhat. All trains on the Strohgäubahn are currently running, and the school train is also operating regularly at all stations again.

However, there may be delays due to the situation in Heimerdingen at the Feuerbacher Straße level crossing. Due to the evasive traffic, traffic jams are always possible in the area of the level crossing. If vehicles then enter the level crossing despite a recognizable backlog and are unable to clear it in time when a train approaches, this leads to delays.

As a result, the timetable cannot be adhered to in all cases. The connection to the S-Bahn in Korntal may also be affected.

Together with Württembergische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (WEG) and the road traffic authorities concerned, the Strohgäubahn special purpose association is currently working intensively on solutions to stabilize the operation of the railroad and continue to provide passengers with reliable transport.
