Ground-breaking ceremony for the extension of the Erich Bracher School - District Administrator Allgaier: "We are not only creating more space and new room layouts, but also improving the infrastructure

The ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of the Erich-Bracher-Schule (EBS) in Kornwestheim-Pattonville took place on Friday (July 17). "Good developments allow us to celebrate the official start of construction for the extension of the Erich-Bracher-Schule here together today: on the one hand, that the vocational schools in our district are very popular and the number of pupils is constantly high - on the other hand, that the number of births in the school's catchment area is also developing positively and therefore more children will attend secondary schools in the medium term," said District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier at the event.

A group of professionals in hard hats stands in a line, each holding a shovel, in front of a building and trees. They appear to be participating in a ground-breaking ceremony, symbolizing the start of a construction or development project.

The range of courses offered by the commercial school with a high proportion of vocational schools is very attractive and with the introduction of the two-stream business high school, the space situation has become even more acute, continued the head of the district administration. "With the extension, we are not only creating more space and new room layouts - we are also improving the infrastructure in general so that it meets today's modern standards in many respects." For example, the twelve classrooms in the existing school building with 54 square meters would no longer meet the school building guidelines - they would have to be enlarged, explained the district administrator. The installation of an elevator and barrier-free toilets would also create the structural conditions for inclusive schooling. Sufficient and covered bicycle parking spaces would be planned in accordance with the criteria of sustainable building in Baden-Württemberg. The establishment of a canteen would provide an appropriate range of meals.

District Administrator Allgaier continued: "Sustainability is also practiced during construction: the building work will be carried out using recycled concrete and a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof. Integrated ventilation slats ensure a pleasant indoor climate, even at the height of summer, providing cool air overnight."

Allgaier concluded by thanking the district council, which had passed the necessary resolutions for the project, and in particular the members of the district council project group, "who have been very closely involved in the construction project and have also played a part in keeping it on time and on budget so far".

In 2017, the regional council identified an additional space requirement of around 1,500 square meters for the EBS. Following the joint development of implementation options and an initial preliminary draft in 2018, the district council made the decision in principle to expand the Erich Bracher School on January 25, 2019. 1,310 square meters will be created in the two-storey extension on the existing school grounds. According to current plans, the district is investing a total of 7.6 million euros in the extension and conversion of EBS. The regional council has promised funding for the extension. The extension is scheduled for completion in April 2022, with construction work in the existing building due to be completed in December 2022 and in the assembly hall and canteen area in December 2023.
