Very punctual: The Strohgäubahn is one of the most reliable rail lines in the region

Punctuality is no accident. While many transit systems face growing challenges, the Strohgäubahn has consistently impressed for years with its exceptionally high operational quality. With a punctuality rate of 98.5 percent, it ranks among the most reliable rail connections in the region. This success is made possible by modern infrastructure, a high-performance maintenance facility, and the daily dedication of its employees.

Reliable transportation: the Strohgäubahn (Strogäubahn Special-Purpose Association).

Reliability as a Hallmark

Anyone traveling on the Strohgäubahn can count on it. With its high on-time performance rate, the line maintains an exceptionally high standard and proves that reliable rail service is possible even on a regional railway line.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier sees this as the result of consistent effort over many years: “Punctuality doesn’t just happen on the tracks—it starts long before that. It is the result of a well-maintained infrastructure, reliable rolling stock, and, above all, a dedicated team that works every day to ensure passengers reach their destinations on time.”

The Maintenance Facility: The Heart of Operations

A key component of the high operational quality is the maintenance shop in Korntal. It was completed in the spring of 2015 and officially opened in April of that same year by Winfried Hermann, then Minister of Transportation for Baden-Württemberg. The Strohgäubahn’s vehicles are inspected weekly. Any necessary repairs are handled directly at the workshop.

Since the move from the previous location in Weissach, all maintenance, repair, and cleaning work on the vehicles has been carried out there. The short distances and modern equipment enable efficient maintenance and lay the groundwork for reliable operations.

The construction of the workshop was funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg under the Municipal Transportation Financing Act (GVFG).

Technology and People Working Together

In addition to the technical infrastructure, it is above all the employees who contribute daily to the success of the Strohgäubahn. Three employees in the workshop and 13 railcar operators ensure that the vehicles are reliably available and that the schedule can be maintained.

“High punctuality isn’t achieved through a single project, but only through continuous effort. The employees of the Württembergische Eisenbahngesellschaft, which we have contracted, and our employees at the Strohgäubahn Special-Purpose Association work together day after day

to ensure that the Strohgäubahn operates so reliably. This is something we can all be proud of,” emphasizes Axel Meier, Managing Director of the Strohgäubahn Special-Purpose Association.

Quality Builds Trust

For passengers, reliability is one of the most important reasons for choosing public transit. The consistently high operational quality of the Strohgäubahn therefore not only strengthens passenger confidence but also serves as an important foundation for the line’s further development.

“The Strohgäubahn thus demonstrates that investments in infrastructure, modern operational processes, and qualified employees directly benefit passengers—in the form of a reliable and efficient public transit service,” summarizes Meier.
