During the first hour, the Oscar Walcker and Robert Franck schools in Ludwigsburg opened their doors to allow two film screenings for the participating project schools and their own pupils. In the afternoon, the bicycle cinema moved on to the auditorium of the Mörike and Friedrich Schiller grammar schools in Ludwigsburg, where two further screenings took place. The film program consisted of exciting short films on the subject of climate protection and sustainability - accompanied by popcorn, of course.
The bicycle cinema that was used consisted of ten roller trainers equipped with generators, each with a bicycle attached to it. The kinetic energy generated by the participants while cycling (approx. 400 to 500 watts) supplies the projector, sound system and laptop with electricity. The dedicated students alternated during the performance to ensure a stable power supply.
The team from Solare Zukunft e.V. from Freiburg was responsible for setting up and dismantling the bicycle cinema, as well as providing an introduction to the technology and energy generation. The bicycle rental company "Call a bike" sponsored the ten bicycles required and the Central & Union Filmtheater provided the popcorn. To avoid waste, the Ludwigsburger Innenstadt (LUIS) e.V. lent out reusable cups for the popcorn.
Inspiring schoolchildren to generate sustainable energy and save energy in an entertaining way
"With the bicycle cinema, we want to inspire schoolchildren in an entertaining way for sustainable energy production and energy saving and at the same time strengthen the sense of community in terms of climate protection. It's great to see so many pupils from different classes working together to make the cinema experience possible for an audience of more than a hundred people per screening," explained Ellinor Hoyer from the climate protection team at Ludwigsburg District Office.
The District Office, NaturVision and the City of Ludwigsburg would like to thank everyone involved for the successful realization of this special event and look forward to further projects to promote climate protection in schools.
Info: The cooperation project "Energy-saving models at schools in the district of Ludwigsburg" of the city and district of Ludwigsburg was successfully launched in October 2021 with twelve schools of different types. The aim is to promote topics such as climate protection and sustainability in schools and encourage pupils to get involved. NaturVision Ludwigsburg organizes the annual nature and environmental film festival of the same name in Ludwigsburg in addition to various environmental education offers.
