After the Oscar Walcker School together with the Robert Franck School and the Carl Schaefer School already had the RadCheck at the school, the RadCheck is now also coming to the vocational school center in Bietigheim-Bissingen. The schools are all taking part in the cooperation project "Energy-saving models at schools in the Ludwigsburg district". Together with the service provider Radolino from Heidelberg, the project offers four RadChecks for the participating project schools.
Project manager Ellinor Hoyer from the climate protection team at the district office explains: "The district and the city of Ludwigsburg want to use the bike checks to help pupils to travel safely and in a climate-friendly way with a checked bike." The campaign is subsidized by the state initiative RadKULTUR.
It is often only small things that can restrict cycling or even pose a safety risk. An expert team from Radolino in Heidelberg checks the pupils' bikes every quarter of an hour. Minor defects such as checking the lighting system or adjusting the brakes are rectified immediately and helpful tips are also included.
To ensure that as many bikes as possible are checked, the bike check always takes place over a period of six hours. Last Tuesday, numerous bicycles were checked and made roadworthy at the vocational school. Not only the students, but also some teachers appreciate the offer and bring their bikes along. A teacher at the school explains: "I would be delighted if such a campaign were to take place every year - not just for selfish, cost-related reasons - but simply because it makes cycling even more attractive and is really in line with our sustainability mission statement!" Principal Stefan Ranzinger is also in favor of the campaign: "(E-)bikes are underestimated means of transport and cool sports equipment with which you can protect the environment and your wallet and improve your own fitness."
The RadCheck school tour will conclude this week with the Mörike-Gymnasium, which is taking advantage of the fourth RadCheck offer.
Info: The cooperation project "Energy-saving models at schools in the district of Ludwigsburg" between the city and district of Ludwigsburg was successfully launched in October 2021 with 12 schools of different types. The aim is to promote topics such as climate protection and sustainability in schools and encourage pupils to get involved.
