Initially, the trips were only offered on Sundays and public holidays. Despite this, around 4,000 passengers used the leisure bus in its first year. Since 2012, the "Stromer" has also been running on Saturdays. "This extension has proved successful. Passenger numbers have increased and stabilized over the years as awareness and acceptance have grown and are now constant at more than 10,000 users per year," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. For its "birthday", the vehicle will be given a new livery so that it is immediately recognizable as a leisure bus.
This year, the leisure buses operated by the VVS and the regional districts will only start the leisure bus season on May 16. Recreation and adventure seekers can use the "Stromer" service until November 1, while the other leisure buses only run until October 18. The "WeinKulTourer", the second leisure bus in the district, starts on May 17, as it does not run on Saturdays.
Passengers pay the regular fare of the Stuttgart Transport and Tariff Association (VVS). Initially, the leisure buses will run without the bicycle trailers, but it will be clear when these will be in use again after an initial test phase.
