Children walking to school independently has many advantages: they get exercise in the fresh air, spend time with their peers and experience their immediate surroundings. At the same time, parents are relieved and the environment is protected. How children get to school is therefore not only relevant to safety but also to the climate.
The hands-on campaign "Schulwegprofis - Wer geht, gewinnt!", which will be implemented as a pilot project in the Ludwigsburg district from 6-24 November 2023 as part of the state program MOVERS - Active to School, aims to give primary school children a fun way to experience the fun and benefits of an active journey to school. The elementary school with the most journeys to school on foot (in relation to the number of pupils taking part) wins the competition in the Ludwigsburg district and receives an attractive surprise prize. The campaign will be accompanied by varied teaching ideas and materials, which will be made available to the participating schools free of charge.
State-wide competition: registration open until October 2
The district of Ludwigsburg will be testing the campaign for the first time as a pioneer with its elementary school before the "Schulwegprofis" are rolled out nationwide in 2024. From September 4 to October 2, elementary school can register online to take part free of charge: https://www.movers-bw.de/bausteine-mit-aktionsfokus/schulwegprofis/schulwegprofis-anmeldung
Schools and local authorities can use action modules
The interministerial state program MOVERS - Active to School advises and supports schools and local authorities in the implementation of school mobility management measures. MOVERS aims to strengthen the self-active and safe mobility of children and young people on their way to school. Individual measures, such as bike pools, school cycling or the promotion of bicycle parking facilities, are bundled under one roof. The action and infrastructure modules can be used by schools and local authorities in Baden-Württemberg.
All information on the interministerial program can be found online at www.movers-bw.de. If you have any questions about the school route professionals, you can contact the MOVERS team at schulwegprofis[at]movers-bw.de.
