New findings on the contamination of the Bottwar

Last week, the Ludwigsburg District Office was notified of a fish kill in the Bottwar in Oberstenfeld by the fisheries inspector of the Stuttgart Regional Council. Around 40 dead fish have been found so far. Now there are new findings.

The probable cause was found to be a discharge via a pipe in the rainwater drainage system of an industrial company in Robert-Bosch-Straße. Due to a faulty connection of the yard drainage system to the rainwater sewer, contaminated wastewater was able to enter the Bottwar directly. It has not yet been possible to determine the exact substances in the contaminated wastewater. Due to the dilution of the discharge, there is currently no danger to the water quality.

The stormwater drain has now been cleaned by a specialist company in order to prevent further contamination of the water. The operator has been instructed to ensure that only rainwater is allowed to enter the yard drainage system until the yard area is properly connected to the sewer.

The Ludwigsburg District Office will review the operation as quickly as possible with all the responsible experts from the district office and take additional measures if necessary.
