Andreas Auracher, Brendan Wenzel, Marc Heiler and Batuhan Karagöz are completing their training as specialists in recycling and waste management at AVL
. "We want to use process water instead of
drinking water. The water is to be used for street cleaning, machine maintenance and flushing toilets
", is how the young people describe their project. By using
surface water and purified water from the leachate treatment plant at the
landfill, energy is saved that would otherwise have to be used to treat and provide drinking water
. At the same time, the trainees are using their project to respond to the drinking water shortage exacerbated by the climate crisis
.
The four developed a solid plan for their project and, with the support of their
training manager and mentor Sebastian Dörr, prudently set about implementing it. With their project
"Substitution of drinking water with process water at landfills", the Ludwigsburg
convinced the expert jury. In November, the team of trainees will travel to Berlin for the municipal climate conference
, where they will receive one of the three federal prizes
from a representative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment: 3,000 euros for further climate protection activities at their workplace.
District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier is delighted with the success of the Ludwigsburg trainees and the
Climate Scouts project as a whole: "Congratulations on this well-deserved award! The commitment
of the young people is remarkable and exactly what we need in these times. In order to
achieve our climate protection goals, we are dependent on the initiative and cooperation of all
administrative staff. The Climate Scouts project is ideal for firmly anchoring climate protection issues in the day-to-day work of the next generation of
municipal employees. I'm already
looking forward to the creative ideas of the next round!"
The Energy Agency Kreis Ludwigsburg LEA e.V. and the Climate Protection Team of the District Office
Ludwigsburg are very proud of the winners. But the real winner of the "Municipal
Climate Scouts" project is climate protection in the district. This is because 35 prospective municipal employees
will become trained climate scouts and help think about climate protection in their workplace as a matter of course
- ideally for the rest of their working lives.
Info:
The "Municipal Climate Scouts" training course integrates the topic of climate protection into the training
of municipal trainees. In November 2021, 35 trainees from ten municipalities
in the district of Ludwigsburg were trained in climate protection and project management.
They then developed their own climate protection projects and submitted them to the national competition organized by the
German Institute of Urban Affairs (Difu).
Interested municipalities and municipal companies can still register their trainees for the "Municipal Climate Scouts 2022/23" training course until July 26, 2022
