District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier presents Jochen Feyerabend with the Ludwigsburg District Medal of Merit

Big surprise for Commander Jochen Feyerabend: At the Besigheim fire department's Annual General Meeting, the long-standing honorary deputy district fire chief and overall commander of the Besigheim volunteer fire department was awarded the Ludwigsburg district's medal of merit. The medal and certificate were presented personally by District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.

"Your commitment has not only shaped the Besigheim fire department, but also the entire region. Your commitment goes far beyond what could be described as a sense of duty," said Allgaier in his speech. Feyerabend will end his active fire department career in Besigheim on January 31, 2025 after 46 years of service, 32 years of which as commander and 19 years as deputy district fire chief.

The award of the Medal of Merit of the Ludwigsburg district not only recognizes Feyerabend's many years of service, but also his tireless efforts to further develop fire department work in the Ludwigsburg district, according to Allgaier."You deserve this honor for everything you have done for your comrades, for the people of Besigheim and for the entire district. Your expertise, your level-headedness and your passion for the fire department make you an indispensable asset."

Respected contact person for fire department matters

Since his election in 2006, Feyerabend has supported the fire departments in the Ludwigsburg district and the district fire service association in an exemplary manner. As the district fire chief on duty, he was regularly deployed to major incidents and worked intensively to ensure close cooperation with the administrations, towns, municipalities and the district council.

In his role as deputy district fire chief, Feyerabend was also head of the command staff and as such had overall responsibility for operational and tactical management in disaster situations. Thanks to his professional expertise as a freelance architect, he was also a valued contact for conversions, new buildings and fire protection concepts for fire stations in the district.

Under his leadership, the Besigheim fire department was developed and expanded into a high-performance fire department. During his tenure, the Besigheim fire department grew to over 100 active firefighters.Feyerabend played a key role in the founding of the youth fire department in 1995.Numerous firefighters who were trained under his guidance owe him comprehensive training and a solid foundation in radiotelephony.
