District Administrator Allgaier Welcomes the Prioritization of the Light Rail System

In a press release issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, the state of Baden-Württemberg announced a reorientation of its plan to reactivate rail lines. In light of the changed financial conditions, the state has divided the planned reactivation projects into two phases. The Ludwigsburg-Markgröningen light rail line (LUCIE) is part of Phase 1 (“Priority Projects”). For District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, the decision sends an important signal to the region and the municipal project partners.

“I very much welcome the decision to proceed with the planned reactivation of the Ludwigsburg-Markgröningen rail line. For the people in the region, as well as for our municipal project partners, prioritizing this rail line sends an important signal. With the announced pre-financing of half the planning costs, the municipal project sponsors can continue planning the light rail system. The state’s decision comes at just the right time for us: As early as next week, on October 15, 2026, at my invitation, the municipal council members, the members of the Light Rail Special-Purpose Association, and all county council members will gather in Möglingen for a forum of elected officials. Taking into account the resolutions of the Ludwigsburg City Council, the forum will focus primarily on the reactivation of the line between Ludwigsburg and Markgröningen. I would like to thank Transportation Minister Nicole Razavi and the state for their support. “This prioritization provides an excellent foundation for what we hope will be the successful implementation of this section of the light rail project,” says District Administrator Allgaier.
