Ludwigsburg district in 2nd place nationwide in CITY CYCLING

Huge motivation for cycling in the state: people from 350 municipalities cycle over 23 million kilometers. The Ludwigsburg district contributed 1.5 million kilometers, putting it in second place nationwide.

Infographic summarizing the 2020 cycling initiative results in Germany. Highlights include over 98,000 cyclists, 23.25 million kilometers cycled, a 113% increase in CO2 reduction (3,400 tons), and participation from 350 municipalities. Key metrics indicate significant growth in cycling culture and community engagement.

The result of this year's CITY CYCLING competition shows: The enthusiasm of people in Baden-Württemberg for cycling cannot be beaten in a nationwide comparison. 350 municipalities in the state took part in CITY CYCLING this year, 138 of them for the first time. This puts Baden-Württemberg in the top spot in three respects: in the number of participating municipalities, the number of kilometers covered per inhabitant and the proportion of active cyclists per inhabitant.

Almost 100,000 cycling enthusiasts in action in Baden-Württemberg

In Baden-Württemberg, a total of 98,715 cyclists took part in CITY CYCLING 2020 (up 81 percent compared to 2019, when there were 54,488), with teams from 1,480 companies taking part. A total of 23 million kilometers were cycled, which corresponds to an increase of almost 100 percent compared to the previous year (11.74 million). 3,400 tons of CO2 were thus avoided. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann, who also contributed numerous kilometers, is accordingly enthusiastic: "Almost 100,000 participants, more than 23 million kilometers: That's almost double last year's figure and is simply fantastic! In a comparison of all the federal states, people in Baden-Württemberg have cycled to the top in several categories. With so much enthusiasm for cycling, we as a state are happy to promote CITY CYCLING through the RadKULTUR initiative." (Quote from the RadKULTUR press release: www.radkultur-bw.de)

Ludwigsburg district in 2nd place

The district of Ludwigsburg contributed 1.5 million kilometers to the overall result (previous year 0.8 million). The 6,000 cyclists who took part in the campaign (87% more than in the previous year) catapulted the district into second place nationwide. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier: "We are delighted that the district has done so well. This gives us a tailwind for our plans to expand and strengthen cycling as a climate-friendly and healthy form of mobility." Cyclists from the Ortenau district are the frontrunners. They cycled around 7,000 more.

Next campaign period: July 1-21, 2021

The district of Ludwigsburg took part in the campaign for the fourth time. The plans for 2021 are already in place. "The next CITY CYCLING will take place from 1 to 21 July 2021," says Lisa Röthinger from the district office, who is coordinating the campaign and would like to expressly motivate the towns and municipalities in the district to take part: "Participation is free of charge for our district municipalities and we are happy to help with the organization. We therefore hope that more municipalities will join the existing 15."
