"The pedelec is a future-oriented and environmentally friendly means of transport, and more and more everyday and leisure trips are being made on them," Sabine Haider is certain. The newly qualified cycling fun trainer is delighted that the project is finally starting after the long coronavirus break. She is offering two courses in September, both at the training ground of the youth traffic school in Vaihingen/Enz: "I am delighted to be able to teach interested people in the region how to use their pedelec safely and thus make an important contribution to greater road safety." In addition to Haider, around a dozen trainers have now been trained in the Ludwigsburg district.
There are currently seven courses to choose from, which can be booked free of charge via the portal radspaß.org. The range of courses and training locations is constantly being expanded. In addition to riding technique exercises to train coordination and reaction, the four-hour courses also cover road safety topics. Participants rehearse special riding situations in order to develop a feel for the bike - and then be able to ride safely in traffic.
Background: cycling fun courses for pedelec riders
The number of e-bikes on the roads is increasing: according to the German bicycle industry, two out of five bikes sold in 2020 had an auxiliary motor. However, pedelec riding is different from conventional cycling, if only because of the strong acceleration and higher weight. Newcomers should therefore take a little time to get to know the pedelec better and adjust to the new riding experience - in order to get around safely and have fun.
The "radspaß - sicher e-biken" (cycling fun - safe e-biking) project run by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) and the Württemberg Cycling Association (WRSV) is designed with this in mind. Special riding safety training courses are designed to teach cyclists safety in critical situations, confidence in road traffic and riding enjoyment. Information and booking at: radspaß.org
