Various exhibits are on display, which on the one hand shed light on the town's history and on the other hand are intended to illustrate its family-friendliness and the wide range of events and cultural activities on offer.
Where the old farming village still lives on
Kornwestheim is located in the heart of the Stuttgart region between the state capital and Ludwigsburg. In Kornwestheim, first mentioned in a document around 780 AD, history and modernity come together. Visitors can still experience the flair of the former farming village in the historic town center, also known as the "old village". Lots of exciting information about the town's history, such as the construction of the railroad line and the start of industrialization, can be found in the exhibition as part of the "Regional Window".
The town offers a wide range of events and cultural activities. A particular cultural highlight is the cultural and congress center Das K. Surrounded by the music school and the museum in the Kleihues building, Das K completes Kornwestheim's cultural square. On the occasion of its 10th anniversary and the new 2023/2024 season, a part of the exhibition is dedicated to the culture and congress center.
Lurchi and his friends are also there
The Salamander site in the west of Kornwestheim is a real architectural highlight. The Salamander brand is automatically associated with "Lurchi". In addition to exhibits on the history of the town, the cultural history collection in Kantstraße also includes items from the former Salamander shoe factory, including the comic figures Lurchi and his friends. Some of these exhibits can also be seen in the exhibition.
With its exhibits in the district administration office, the town's school museum illustrates the history of the school system in Württemberg up to 1945, the changes in teaching, the social status of schools and the teaching profession in rural areas. "I found the documentation of the different educational paths of girls and boys particularly interesting," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.
The exhibition can be visited daily during the regular opening hours of the district administration office at Hindenburgstraße 40.
