Innovative ideas for viticulture and tourism wanted

The Neckarschleifen Regional Development Association is once again calling for applications for projects in the eleven member municipalities that serve to preserve steep-slope viticulture and the wine culture landscape.

In addition to well-known and proven ideas relating to viticulture and its marketing, the search is now on for projects and plans that are creative, innovative and unique.

The non-profit association "Regional Development Neckarschleifen", founded in November 2020, supports small projects that serve to preserve steep-slope viticulture and the wine culture landscape. 90 percent of the funds come from the regional budget. The remaining ten percent is financed by the eleven member municipalities. The regional budget for small projects is an additional funding pot designated at federal level to strengthen rural areas.

The chairman of the association, Mayor Dr. Jörg Frauhammer from Gemmrigheim, together with his deputies Mayor Uwe Seibold (Kirchheim am Neckar) and District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, are delighted with the successes of recent years, in which a number of projects have already been funded to preserve the vineyard slopes in line with the objectives of the integrated rural development concept "ILEK- Neckarschleifen". "Successful project campaigns in 2021 and 2022 are behind us." Many interesting projects from a wide range of areas were implemented with the help of the funding, most recently a Natur-Kraft-Weg as an innovative digital fitness trail using an app, snack stations in the vineyards, trolleys, signage for steep-slope circular trails, mini-platforms in the vineyard and two wine vending machines, one of which is to be operated independently with photovoltaics.

The topics of the 2023 call for projects are

  • Steep slope viticulture as cultural heritage and image carrier of the region: profiling steep slope wines
  • Developing the Neckarschleifen wine and cultural landscape as an experience area and tourist destination
  • Vineyard terraces with a new future - innovative uses and prospects for fallow steep slopes
  • Cultural heritage as a community task - creating awareness and finding partners

In addition to the well-known and proven project ideas relating to viticulture and its marketing, new projects that are creative, innovative and unique are now also being sought. The call for projects states: "Do you have ideas for interesting and innovative projects that serve to preserve or promote the valuable cultural landscape of the terraced steep vineyards? Inspire guests to visit the steep slopes?" The aim is to establish the Neckar loops as a tourist wine region with a unique selling point. "This includes appropriate projects that have the potential to attract guests - simply because they are unique and exciting and offer visitors a special experience." Projects in the field of nature and landscape conservation on steep slopes are also very welcome.

Municipalities, churches, companies, clubs, associations and natural persons and partnerships (private individuals, GbR, KG, farmers) can apply. The investment must be implemented within the boundaries of these municipalities: Benningen, Besigheim, Bönnigheim, Freiberg, Gemmrigheim, Hessigheim, Ingersheim, Kirchheim, Lauffen, Mundelsheim and Walheim.

Applications with a project description and rough cost estimate must be submitted to the office of the Neckarschleifen Regional Development Association at the Ludwigsburg District Office, Hindenburgstr. 40, 71638 Ludwigsburg by February 27, 2023. Further documents can still be submitted until March 27.
