Well Protected Together: Vaccination Awareness Week in Ludwigsburg County

The Ludwigsburg district is participating in the nationwide vaccination awareness week from November 9 to 15, 2026. With a series of events, counseling services, and vaccination opportunities, the campaign week is aimed at people in a wide variety of life situations—from children and teenagers to families, seniors, and people without a permanent residence. The patron for the Ludwigsburg district is Steffen Bilger, Member of the Bundestag and Federal Minister of Transportation.

The Ludwigsburg District is participating in the nationwide vaccination awareness week (Ludwigsburg District Office).

Vaccination rates in the county are very low and also significantly below the national average. For example, in 2025, only 14 percent of people aged 60 and older in the county were vaccinated against shingles and only 17 percent against the flu (influenza), even though the Standing Committee on Vaccination at the Robert Koch Institute recommends vaccination for everyone aged 60 and older.

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier therefore emphasizes: “With the vaccination campaign week, we’re creating an easily accessible opportunity to address such an important issue that affects us all. After all, vaccinations are among the most cost-effective and efficient preventive measures.”

Patron Steffen Bilger also speaks out in support of the Vaccination Awareness Week. “Vaccination protects and saves lives: Especially as the cold season approaches, by participating in the vaccination campaign, you’re not only protecting yourself from severe illness but also taking responsibility for others. As patron of this year’s Vaccination Awareness Week in the Ludwigsburg district, I would like to thank all the organizers and volunteers for their important efforts!”

HPV Exhibition Kicks Off Vaccination Awareness Week

The traveling exhibition by the German Cancer Research Center, “HPV Has Many Faces,” features people affected by HPV-related diseases such as cervical cancer, penile cancer, and cancer of the base of the tongue. The exhibition provides information about human papillomaviruses (HPV), potential diseases, and how HPV vaccination can help prevent them. The exhibition runs through November 7 at the Ludwigsburg Cultural Center. It will then be on display from November 9 to 13 for students at the Christoph-Schrempf-Gymnasium in Besigheim. The exhibition there will be complemented by an informational event featuring the Public Health Department, where a woman affected by the disease will share her experiences.

Free Vaccination Offer for People Experiencing Homelessness

On Monday, November 9, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., a free vaccination drive for homeless people will take place at the “Im Riedle” homeless shelter in Ludwigsburg. The event will offer vaccination record reviews, individual counseling, and select vaccinations. The event is being held in cooperation with the Mylius Pharmacy. In addition, winter survival kits containing thermal mugs, tube scarves, headlamps, and lip balm will be distributed as part of the event.

“Long Night of Vaccinations” on the Market Square

A highlight of the campaign week is the “Long Night of Vaccination” on Thursday, November 12. It will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Ludwigsburg’s market square in cooperation with the district’s disaster response team, volunteers, the City of Ludwigsburg, and participating pharmacies. In the vaccination bus and at the participating local pharmacies, visitors can receive information about vaccinations, personalized advice, and various vaccination options. To receive a personalized vaccination offer on the vaccination bus, you must first schedule a telephone consultation with the Public Health Department by November 3 (Tel. 07141 1442520 or by email: gesundheitsfoerderung[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de).

Open Vaccination Consultation Hours for Children and Families on November 11 and 12

On November 11 and 12, open vaccination clinics are planned at participating pediatric, adolescent, and family practice offices throughout the district. The initiative is organized by the district medical association. This service is aimed in particular at children, adolescents, and families who do not yet have a regular pediatrician, adolescent health care provider, or family doctor and would like to catch up on important vaccinations.
