Cycling together through the district: Anniversary cycle path opens

On your bikes, get set, go: the anniversary cycle path is finished! The circular route opens up the unique landscape of the Ludwigsburg district over 162 kilometers along the district border. The ADFC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club) is still looking for cyclists for the opening day: on Saturday, April 13, the new cycle path will be inaugurated by the ADFC. Enthusiastic cyclists are cordially invited to gather at 9.30 a.m. on the station forecourt in Besigheim.

From there, part of the 3rd stage will be cycled together with the ADFC. The tour covers a total distance of around 50 km. An e-bike is recommended.

"The anniversary cycle route is a testament to our efforts to create a cycle-friendly and environmentally friendly district. The trail not only offers a safe route for cyclists, but also unique experiences for cycle tourists," says District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.

From Besigheim to Ludwigsburg: explore the district by bike

The tour begins at the Neckar loop in Besigheim and offers participants an impressive view of the Hessigheim rock gardens after just a few minutes. Particular attention is paid to the beautiful terraced steep slopes, where viticulture can only be carried out using muscle power due to the incline.

The route continues through the villages of Hessigheim, Mundelsheim, Winzerhausen, Oberstenfeld and the town of Großbottwar. As the route continues through the Kleinbottwar valley via Kleinbottwar to Steinheim an der Murr, the idyllic tranquillity and beauty of this area is enchanting. From Steinheim, the route is shortened and leaves the Jubilee Cycle Route in the direction of Marbach am Neckar, finally ending in Ludwigsburg.

Jubilee cycle path runs for a total of 162 kilometers through 21 district municipalities

The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the district took place in 2023. Now the district is rounding off its celebrations with the anniversary cycle route. The route is based on the district boundary of the Ludwigsburg district and therefore covers an impressive 162 kilometers. The varied tour leads through 21 district municipalities and offers an unforgettable journey through "breathtaking" and very varied landscapes.

The start and finish point of the entire tour is the train station in Ludwigsburg, but the tour can be started or ended at any point. Three suggested stages with different tour lengths of 42 to 62 kilometers are presented on the district's website and on the specially developed cycle map. The cycle map will be ready from week 15 and can be downloaded at tourismus[at]landkreis-ludwigsburg.de can be pre-ordered.
