Former district councillor and MEP Rainer Wieland celebrates his 65th birthday

Former district councillor (1994-98) and MEP Rainer Wieland celebrates his 65th birthday on Saturday (February 19). On his special day, he receives a letter of congratulations from District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier.

In it, the head of the district administration wished the jubilarian all the best, above all good health, and thanked him for his good cooperation. "With your many years of commitment at various levels of politics, especially as a Member and Vice-President of the European Parliament and your exemplary commitment as a convinced European, you have made an important contribution to 'more Europe' and made the European idea tangible at a local level," writes the District Administrator. "Thanks to your diverse support for our European activities, we can bring Europe closer to the people in our district and strengthen European awareness. The visit of the winning class of the Europe quiz to the European Parliament in Strasbourg has been a great pleasure for all school classes for many years and introduces young people to the European institutions."

Rainer Wieland was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg in July 2021. In 2007, he received the Gold Medal of Honor of the City of Gerlingen, and in 2009 the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon. Wieland has been Vice-President of the European Parliament since 2009. In 2018, he was made an honorary citizen of the Kosovan city of Drenas.
