Due to the ongoing closure of the Neckar Bridge in Besigheim, bus service in Besigheim is being reorganized. A new schedule plan for routes 459, 568, 573, and 574. The goal is to ensure the most stable and reliable public transportation service possible, despite the necessary detours, some of which are quite extensive.
Adjusted schedules for school bus service have been in effect since mid-September. The next step will be to optimize these schedules and reorganize regular bus service.
Line 459 runs to Kirchheim am Neckar every day
Since September 14, Route 459 has been running to Kirchheim am Neckar. Starting October 12, the route will also be extended to the Kirchheim am Neckar train station on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Route 568 will run between Besigheim and Freudental in the future
In the future, Line 568 will run exclusively between Besigheim Station and Freudental. The previous branch line toward Ottmarsheim will be taken over by Line 573. Due to ongoing construction work in Freudental, some stops there will be temporarily suspended.
Route 573 connects Besigheim, Gemmrigheim, and Ottmarsheim
Route 573 will provide the direct connection between Besigheim, Gemmrigheim, and Ottmarsheim. From downtown Besigheim, buses will travel via the B27 to the Kirchheim train station and then on through Gemmrigheim and the Niedere Klinge stop to Ottmarsheim.
At the Kirchheim train station, there are connections to and from the MEX trains in the respective peak directions. The service schedule is based on the timetable for Line 568 prior to the closure of the Neckar Bridge. Monday through Friday, buses will once again run every half hour during peak hours.
In the future, buses on Line 573 will no longer serve the Neusatz, Amselweg, Adlerweg, and Fährgergasse stops.
Line 574 ends in Kirchheim am Neckar
In the future, Line 574 will only run between Bönnigheim and the Kirchheim train station. There will continue to be connections to MEX trains to and from Besigheim. Passengers can transfer regularly between Lines 573 and 574. This means that Besigheim’s downtown area remains accessible from Bönnigheim with one transfer.
Adjusted routes avoid unnecessary parallel service
The closure of the Neckar Bridge requires extensive detours, significantly lengthening travel routes. To continue offering a stable and economically viable bus service under these conditions, the route plans have been reviewed and reorganized. School bus service will remain fully operational.
By shortening Route 574 to Kirchheim, overlapping service with Route 573 between Kirchheim and Besigheim is avoided. At the same time, the connection between Bönnigheim and Besigheim remains in place with one transfer.
The new route for Line 573 also offers advantages: Between Gemmrigheim and Ottmarsheim, buses will take a more direct route via the Niedere Klinge stop. This will shorten travel times, especially for passengers from Ottmarsheim. At the same time, connections to the MEX trains in Kirchheim are expected to be more reliable.
Changes to School Bus Service
The existing trips on Route 568A between Ottmarsheim and Besigheim will be integrated into Route 573A as part of the reorganization of regular scheduled service. The previous 7:23 a.m. departure from Carl-Benz-Straße will now depart at 7:29 a.m. from the Ilsfelder Straße stop.
Traffic conditions and the punctuality of school buses will continue to be monitored. Due to the long detour routes, there are hardly any opportunities to further adjust the schedules, especially at the start of the school year. Should buses regularly arrive late at the school, the VVS, the responsible authorities, schools, and school districts will jointly explore further options.
Check before traveling
Despite the new schedule plan, the bridge closure and longer routes may still cause delays. Passengers are therefore asked to check their connections and the current service status before traveling. The new schedules are available in the VVS electronic schedule information system.
