Investigation into contamination of the Bottwar

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the Ludwigsburg District Office was notified of a fish kill in the Bottwar in Oberstenfeld by the fisheries inspector of the Stuttgart Regional Council. The fish mortality was discovered by the responsible water warden the evening before. He reported around 40 dead fish. There is no danger for citizens.

Employees from the environmental department were on site with the Ludwigsburg industrial/environmental police headquarters and an employee from the municipality of Oberstenfeld.

A possible cause was identified as a discharge via a PV pipe leading to a site in Robert-Bosch-Straße, from which an unknown liquid was dripping. As it is unclear what the liquid is, how it could have entered the PV pipe and whether it is actually the cause of the fish death, a new on-site visit will take place on Friday, August 15, to investigate the cause further.

The investigations will be carried out in close cooperation with the fisheries inspector. The results will be communicated to the public as soon as they are available.
