35,000 media from fiction, non-fiction, children's and youth literature as well as literature CDs, language courses, maker boxes, Kamishibai and much more are lined up on the shelves of the district supplementary library. "The media are lent to the libraries in the district in the form of block loans or individual loans," explains Sylvia Debautzki, head of the library, to District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier during his visit. Together with Frank Holzapfel, a member of the technical book processing team, and Civan Türk, a specialist in media and information services, Debautzki showed the District Administrator around the premises in Grönerstraße.
Pupils in particular, who have to write papers on a wide variety of topics, benefit from the well-stocked collection of the district supplementary library, the director continued. "Without the district supplementary library, the small libraries would not be able to provide pupils with literature on a wide range of topics."
District supplementary library unique in Baden-Württemberg
While there are often several such district supplementary libraries in other federal states, the library in Ludwigsburg is the only one in Baden-Württemberg. "It is extremely interesting to see the knowledge that has accumulated here in the form of literature and media over the decades," says District Administrator Allgaier. "We can be proud that our district has such a unique offering."
The district supplementary library also provides special literature from the specialist library in the Ludwigsburg/Kornwestheim Vocational School Center, from the Ludwigsburg City Library and via the Baden-Württemberg Library Service Center. Other tasks of the district supplementary library include providing media packages on various topics, providing specialist advice to non-official libraries and carrying out research for local libraries without Internet access.
