On August 4, 2025, the road builders from the district administration are making structural changes to the accident blackspot on the L 1100 state road at the Benningen junction. The accident commission, which consists of representatives from the road traffic authority, the road construction authority and the police, has decided to close the existing merging lanes in the direction of Marbach and the merging lane in front of the junction in the direction of Murr. This will prevent lane changes: it has been shown that merging onto the short sections of the dual carriageway has led to accidents in the past. To avoid these accidents, the other lanes will be closed (see graphic). It will still be possible to turn into two lanes coming from Benningen.

The merging lanes will be closed to vehicle traffic until further notice

The closures are long-term and will be reassessed once the work on the Murrbrücke bridge has been completed. As things currently stand, the state is planning to rebuild the Murrbrücke bridge in mid-2026. This construction work will also involve extending the existing single-thread lanes. As this will change the traffic situation, it will then be reassessed.
