A handcart with future prospects

"Day parents recruit day parents": with this campaign, the Competence Center for Child Day Care wanted to help get more people in the district interested in child day care.

Three people stand together beside a stroller wrapped in plastic. Two women, one in a red jacket and the other in a green sweater, smile while a man in a blue shirt and maroon jacket holds the stroller. Colorful balloons are attached to it, promoting a special event.

Around 900 children in the district of Ludwigsburg are looked after by approx. 300 childminders in the district. Most of these children are under three years old or are looked after in childminding as a supplement to daycare. Child day care is therefore an important pillar of child day care services in the district and in the municipalities.

To recruit new childminders, the Competence Center for Childminding has launched the "Childminders recruit childminders" competition. Childminders who are already active and working were asked to advertise their job as a childminder to their friends and acquaintances. "Our idea behind it is quite simple: Who can do it better than people who are convinced of what they do and enjoy it?" explains Sabine Müller, Head of the Competence Center for Childminding at the Ludwigsburg District Office.

This is the second time this competition has been held and numerous childminders have been able to recruit friends and acquaintances to work as childminders. This year's main prize winner is Kindernest Glückskind in Asperg. The Kindernest now has a handcart with space for four daycare children. The prize was presented to Sigrid Bullinger and René Reimann. Gabriele Friese and Sigrid Bullinger have been running the Kindernest since 2013 and, as part of the campaign, have found a young, pedagogical specialist in Mr. Reimann who will carry the Kindernest into the next generation in the long term.

Meanwhile, the qualification offensive for childcare in the Ludwigsburg district has started with great success. Since April 2021, there has been a new qualification concept in Baden-Württemberg for new childminders. It comprises 300 teaching units and trains those interested in child day care for the care of children aged 0 - 14. The childminders mainly work in their own households.

The next course for the qualification of new childminders starts in February 2023. Interested parties are welcome to contact the Competence Center for Childcare. The website www.tageseltern-lb.de also contains a wealth of information about working as a childminder and about qualifications.
