The winning municipality can now even look forward to two prizes. Firstly, the municipal council delegation, together with Mayor Ralf Trettner, has won a wine tasting at the Lembergerland winery in Vaihingen-Roßwag - for the entire municipal council. Secondly, the municipality was able to engage District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier for a work assignment. By arrangement, he will help out at the marketplace clean-up, serve at a festival, tap beer or similar. "I would like to thank all four towns and municipalities for taking part in the fun," said District Administrator Allgaier at the award ceremony. Public administrations in particular are often accused of being reluctant to get involved in something uncertain. "The representatives from Asperg, Pleidelsheim, Steinheim and Tamm clearly proved that this is a prejudice. We quickly noticed how they accepted the challenge and put it into practice in the kitchen of the nutrition center. They really enjoyed the competition," said the district administrator.
At the beginning, there were still perplexed and doubtful faces to be seen when District Administrator Allgaier announced the "challenge": roasting potatoes, cutting onions, preparing dumpling dough and the corresponding (vegetarian) filling - this is not normally on the agenda of local politicians. However, the delegations' flexibility and willingness to experiment quickly became apparent. Whether it was thanks to the in-depth kitchen knowledge of individual delegation members or helpful advice from the public via YouTube, the fact is that all four delegations mastered the challenge with flying colors.
Things then got exciting when the winner was crowned. A jury made up of District Administrator Allgaier, employees from the Department of Agriculture and the Nutrition Center as well as the local press and one representative each from the towns of Gerlingen and Markgröningen chose the best menu in a blind tasting. And Pleidelsheim came out on top in terms of both appearance and taste, albeit by a narrow margin. Incidentally, Gerlingen and Markgröningen were represented because both towns will be taking part in the next competition as part of the district Olympics in the fall.
