Bridge renovation work on the Neckar Weir Bridge near Hessigheim

The Neckarwehr Bridge on County Road K 1618 near Hessigheim will undergo partial renovation starting September 28, 2026. Due to its age, the bridge exhibits numerous signs of damage. It will still be some time before a replacement bridge or a comprehensive renovation can be implemented, due to the necessary procurement procedures, planning, and coordination. To ensure the structural safety of the bridge until then and to avoid short-notice, unplanned closures, renovation work is now required.

As part of the work, concrete spalling will be repaired, joints and road transitions will be replaced, and minor damage to the structure will be fixed. The work is expected to take four to five weeks and be completed by the end of October 2026.

Impact on Traffic

The Neckarwehr Bridge must be fully closed to vehicle traffic for the entire duration of the construction. This affects both cars and trucks as well as bicycle traffic. Pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge during construction, but buses will not cross the bridge while partial repairs are underway.

Detours will be signposted

From Besigheim, traffic will be diverted via the L 1113, Großingersheim, Pleidelsheim, the K 1700, Mundelsheim, and the K 1677 to Hessigheim.

Access to the Mundelsheim neighborhood of Schreyerhof will also be routed via a signposted detour during the construction period. This detour runs from Hessigheim via Mundelsheim, Pleidelsheim, Großingersheim, and Kleiningersheim.

The District Administration asks all road users and residents for their understanding regarding the disruptions and restrictions associated with the full closure.
