Best conditions for safe mobility: Traffic watch opens new road safety center - Ludwigsburg district: Cycling training for primary school children will also be strengthened and will take place on an exemplary training ground in future

The road safety center of the state and district road safety organization for the Ludwigsburg district in Asperg offers ideal conditions for teaching children and adults about safe mobility. With the center at the traffic training area in Asperg, the road safety organization is laying the foundation for sustainable traffic prevention in the region. At the opening ceremony in front of numerous guests, supporters and sponsors, the President of Landesverkehrswacht Baden-Württemberg e.V. Burkhard Metzger and the Minister of Transport of the State of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Hermann emphasized the importance of safe mobility, especially for children. State Secretaries Thomas Blenke and Volker Schebesta from the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Culture and the Ludwigsburg District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier also see traffic prevention strengthened locally.

For many decades, the country's road safety organizations have been committed to educating the public about safe behavior on the roads. Mastering this challenge requires not only good prevention concepts, but also optimal learning locations for all target groups. "The road safety center is such a learning location for sustainable road safety education in the region. After all, safe mobility is important in all situations and for all age groups. For children in particular, the road safety center with its adjacent cycling practice area is the ideal protected space where they can safely practice all traffic situations. Without the support of the district, local authorities and numerous sponsors, this center, which is a matter close to my heart, would not have been possible. Our thanks go to all those who have worked for many years to improve road safety in the region and continue to do so," says Burkhard Metzger, President of Landesverkehrswacht Baden-Württemberg e.V.

Transport Minister Winfried Hermann MdL emphasizes: "The state government is committed to the goal of Vision Zero, a road traffic without fatalities and serious injuries. With its services for all generations in the state, the Landesverkehrswacht is an important partner in achieving this goal. With the new road safety center in the Ludwigsburg district, a piece of modern and sustainable learning infrastructure has been created. It is an investment in road safety. You can practise safe driving here. Anyone who takes advantage of the wide range of courses on offer here, from cycle training and driver safety training to courses for senior citizens, not only benefits themselves, but also contributes to the safety of all road users
."

Thomas Blenke MdL, State Secretary at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior, Digitalization and Local Authorities, clarifies: "Safe driving must be practised. Good and professional cycling training also requires a modern infrastructure. The new road safety center for the district of Ludwigsburg at the traffic training area in Asperg offers the ideal conditions for this. In future, young people and the young at heart will find a wide range of pedelec and e-scooter training courses as well as driving safety and motorcycle safety courses here in addition to cycling training. This is added value for everyone - for greater road safety."

Volker Schebesta MdL, State Secretary in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, emphasizes: "All schoolchildren in Baden-Württemberg must be able to drive safely on the roads. Younger children in particular deserve special attention, as they first have to learn how to behave on our roads. The road safety center in Ludwigburg offers many opportunities to optimally prepare children for the dangers of road traffic in a protected space. The safer our children are on the roads, the more often they will drive independently. This is good for their health and the environment."

District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier says: "The fact that there is now a road safety center in the district of Ludwigsburg is something special. I am delighted that the district has been able to support the realization of the project with its grant of 500,000 euros and the Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg with its generous funding. I am convinced that the money spent on the construction of the road safety center has been put to excellent use, because it will effectively and sustainably benefit the safe mobility of many citizens - a very important added value in view of the increasing volume of traffic, changes in people's leisure behavior and a large number of new vehicles such as e-bikes, pedelecs, e-scooters and Segways."

About the road safety center
The construction costs amounted to 3.2 million euros. Around 1.5 million euros of this was provided by the district and participating local authorities. The rest was provided by the road safety organization through its own funds, donations, sponsorship, energy subsidies and financing.

The building houses the Landesverkehrswacht Baden-Württemberg e.V. and the Kreisverkehrswacht Ludwigsburg e.V.. The Kreisverkehrswacht carries out road safety education projects and campaigns for children, young people and senior citizens and provides significant support to the police in training primary school children to ride bicycles. In future, theoretical training for pupils from many schools in the district will take place on the premises of the road safety center. The adjoining cycling practice area provides the children with the best possible safe space to prepare them for road traffic. Landesverkehrswacht Baden-Württemberg e.V. represents the interests of the more than 50 local road safety organizations in Baden-Württemberg at a national level and supports road safety education locally with state-wide campaigns and projects.
