Affalterbach roadworks - What public transport users and car drivers need to know

From Monday, June 2, 2025, Winnender Straße will only be passable in the direction of Marbach in the section between Robert-Bosch-Straße and Lange Straße. Bus and car traffic in the direction of Winnenden will be routed via Lange Straße and Bittenfelder Weg. Truck traffic in the direction of Winnenden will be diverted over a wide area.

Recently, the renovation work on the drainage channels in Winnender Straße in Affalterbach resulted in considerable delays in the flow of traffic, which led to long delays for bus services. As a result, the timetable was severely disrupted and numerous journeys were canceled. As a result of these disruptions, the local authority and the district authority consulted and agreed on a modified traffic routing that stabilizes bus traffic despite the construction work.

One-way traffic and no stopping in Lange Straße and Bittenfelder Weg

The traffic routing provides for the bus and car traffic in the direction of Winnenden to be routed at the Ochsenkreuzung junction via Lange Straße and Bittenfelder Weg into Robert-Bosch-Straße. From there, the state road 1127 can be reached again (see diagram). The state road, Lange Straße and Bittenfelder Weg can only be used by one-way traffic for the duration of the project. The closure of Bittenfelder Weg will be temporarily lifted. Parking is no longer permitted on Lange Straße and Bittenfelder Weg for the duration of the ring road. Backnanger Straße is expected to be open to traffic in both directions again from the beginning of June. Coming from Birkhau, it will then only be possible to turn right into Winnender Straße in Affalterbach.

The new traffic routing will ensure that the suburbs of Birkhau and Wolfsölden remain connected to the school bus and public transport services. A positive side effect of the changed traffic routing is the acceleration of the work in the area of the state road, so that the measure can probably be completed by the end of June.

Large-scale detour for truck traffic

It is not possible for HGV traffic to use the inner-local detour, so HGV traffic will have to take a large-scale detour. The existing bans on HGV traffic (3.5 tons) on Lange Straße and Bittenfelder Weg will remain in place during the temporary traffic routing. Both road sections are not suitable for HGV traffic. Talstraße is currently fully closed due to work on the supply lines and cannot be used. Truck traffic will therefore be diverted from Erdmannhausen and Marbach via Poppenweiler, Hochdorf and Bittenfeld. A detour will be signposted. The Affalterbach industrial estate can only be reached by truck traffic via this detour. Coming from Winnenden, the industrial estate can be accessed as usual.

If truck drivers do not follow the detour, they must drive in the direction of Erdmannhausen in the area of the Ochsenkreuzung intersection or turn right from Erdmannhausen in the direction of Marbach.

"Maintaining school and regular services as well as the safe handling of detour traffic is our top priority," says Axel Meier, Head of the Traffic Department. "But even with the changed traffic regulations, travel delays cannot be avoided. Anyone who can should avoid the Affalterbach through road."
