For those affected and their relatives, a diagnosis of dementia means a profound disruption to their normal lives. Everyday life, mutual relationships, future plans and the perception of the environment change drastically. These changes bring with them uncertainties and challenges that can put a strain on both those affected and those around them. People with dementia often feel misunderstood and withdraw. Supporting and caring for people with dementia is often a major challenge. Understanding their behavior and establishing good contact is difficult for many.
It is the task of society to improve the quality of life of these people and their relatives, to give them support and the feeling of being taken care of. All interested parties - people with dementia, family caregivers, friends, neighbors, volunteers and professionals - are welcome to take part in the various events in the Ludwigsburg district. Interested parties should take the opportunity to inform themselves, exchange ideas and get into conversation together. In this way, participants also support the campaign week and send out a signal for solidarity and courage in dealing with dementia.
Lectures on September 16 and 18 in the Ludwigsburg district hall
Dementia Week kicks off on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 5 p.m. in the Ludwigsburg District Hall (Hindenburgstraße 40) with a talk on the topic of "Living with dementia in the neighborhood":Gerontologist Adelheid von Spee from the Kuratorium Deutsche Altershilfe (KDA) Berlinwill provide valuable information and practical tips on how to deal with people with dementia. When the ability to plan and organize everyday life decreases as a result of this illness, familiar people in the neighborhood are particularly important. Active participation in community life improves the quality of life of everyone involved. Social interaction strengthens bonds, provides security and creates a shared everyday life in which changes can be managed together and new potential discovered. The better the differences are understood and responded to, the more relaxed the interaction will be.
This knowledge can then be deepened on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 4 p.m. in the Ludwigsburg district hall(Hindenburgstraße 40) with a lecture on the topic of "The challenge of dementia - knowledge, understanding, action":The managing director of the Alzheimer Gesellschaft Baden-Württemberg e.V. Ute Hauser provides knowledge about the clinical picture and symptoms as well as the basics for more understanding, better communication and an appropriate approach to dementia in order to reduce conflicts and stress. Participants will also find out what relief and support options are available for people with dementia and their relatives.
