From December 9: Renovation and widening of the K 1688 between Vaihingen-Riet and Eberdingen

The district road K 1688 between Vaihingen-Riet and Eberdingen will be renovated and widened from December 9. The road will have to be fully closed for the work. The road will be temporarily open to traffic over the Christmas period from December 21 to January 6. The work is expected to last until October 2025.

A roadblock is featured with a red and white barrier, and a circular road sign indicating 'no entry.' There is a yellow sign pointing to the right labeled "Umleitung," which means "detour" in German. Several warning lights are positioned at the top of the barrier.

Because the road surface has a lot of damage and can no longer cope with the current traffic load, the renovation and expansion of district road 1688 between Riet and Eberdingen is urgently needed. The expansion is intended to improve road safety by widening the road and reducing the number of bends. In the area of the Riet sports ground, the road will be laid on an embankment with a view to later flood protection measures. In addition, a new water pipe is being built on behalf of the town of Vaihingen.

Construction will take place in two sections. The first section is the district road K 1688 between Vaihingen-Riet and Eberdingen, the second section is the short stretch between Riet and the access road to the Riet industrial estate. The industrial estate will remain accessible during the entire construction period.

Detour of traffic and bus route 592

Traffic will be diverted from Riet via the K 1694 to Nussdorf and from there via the K 1651 to Eberdingen. Bus route 592 must be diverted between Riet and Eberdingen. There are no bus stops on the closed route.

The construction work will cost around 2.6 million euros. The district of Ludwigsburg is paying around 2.25 million euros and the town of Vaihingen around 0.35 million euros.

The district administration asks all road users and residents for their understanding for the obstructions and restrictions.
