For two days, the Tour Ginkgo cyclists rode through the district to draw attention to the situation of sick children. "A fantastic 80000 euros were raised for aufwind - Bunter Kreis Ludwigsburg," says Markus Stammberger, patron of the charity campaign. The Ludwigsburg District Office also took part with the sale of ginkgo trees, which raised 1,200 euros in donations. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier, who personally welcomed the participants to the cycle tour, was delighted with the success of the campaign and the numerous donations collected for the "aufwind - Bunter Kreis Ludwigsburg" association.
The Tour Ginkgo is an initiative of the Christiane Eichenhofer Foundation and has been on the road for sick children for 30 years. 100 cyclists in yellow jerseys with 20 helpers were on their way through the region again after a two-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic. The group started at the Ludwigsburg Clinic with words of welcome from District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier and Prof. Dr. Jochen Meyburg, Chief Physician of the Ludwigsburg Children's Clinic and 1st Chairman of aufwind.
Every year, the association "aufwind - Bunter Kreis Ludwigsburg" supports, advises and accompanies 80 to 100 families in the Ludwigsburg district with prematurely born, seriously or chronically ill children in coping with the immense burden after their stay in hospital. "80,000 euros for aufwind and thus for extremely premature and seriously ill children in the Ludwigsburg district is a great success. On behalf of aufwind, I would like to thank the Christiane Eichenhofer Foundation and everyone involved for making the Tour Ginkgo 2022 such a success," says Markus Stammberger, patron of aufwind e.V.
Tour Ginkgo sponsors were on the list of visitors on both days. Süddeutsche Krankenversicherung in Fellbach and Paul Lange / Shimano in Stuttgart agreed to be available as stage stops. On the second day, the Tour Ginkgo was welcomed by Lila Logistik in Besigheim for the lunch break. Afterwards, Dr. Matthias Knecht, Lord Mayor of Ludwigsburg, welcomed the group on the market square.
"Our goal is to collect at least 100,000 euros in donations by the end of the year. I know that this is an ambitious goal, but if everyone helps together, we can achieve it," said Christiane Eichenhofer. "The atmosphere was really great and everyone was delighted that we were on the road again as the Tour Ginkgo family to raise awareness of aufwind e.V. Bunter Kreis Ludwigsburg and collect donations. In any case, the Tour Ginkgo has really come back to life and has taken up fundraising for seriously ill children with incredible energy and enthusiasm. Many thanks go to all participants and to all fellow campaigners, including the police and the Malteser, who made sure that we arrived back in Ludwigsburg successfully, healthy and safe after two days of cycling."
100 percent of all donations collected will be forwarded to the beneficiaries.
