Launch of the movement pass in the Ludwigsburg district: project promotes early childhood motor skills

The results of the 2023 school enrolment survey show that 25 percent of five-year-olds in the Ludwigsburg district have motor skills problems. The "Bewegungspass" project aims to counteract this by promoting children's motor skills. The kick-off event for the project recently took place in the Jahnsporthalle in Kornwestheim in front of around 50 interested participants. The introduction and regional implementation in the district of Ludwigsburg is being supported and organized by the health promotion and health planning department of the district health department.

A group of six people stands together in a gymnasium, holding a large check from Kreissparkasse Ludwigsburg. They appear to be celebrating a donation event, surrounded by colorful gym equipment. Various individuals hold soft toys, emphasizing a community initiative or program related to children.

At the launch event, from left: Lord Mayor Nico Lauxmann, Carolin Friedrich from the Health Promotion and Health Planning Department of the District Office Health Department, Head of the Health Department Dr. Karlin Stark, Alexander Thum, Head of the Prevention Division at AOK Ludwigsburg-Rems-Murr, Stephen Perri, Head of the Kornwestheim Children's Sports School, Franziska Borst from the Stuttgart Office for Sport and Exercise and Dr. Uschi Traub, Head of the Health Promotion and Health Planning Department at Ludwigsburg District Office.

After a welcome address by Mayor Nico Lauxmann and words of welcome from Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of the Health Department, and Alexander Thum, Head of the Prevention Division at AOK Ludwigsburg-Rems-Murr, Franziska Borst from the Stuttgart Office for Sport and Exercise and Dr. Uschi Traub from the Ludwigsburg District Office presented the project and its implementation in the district. This was followed by the first certification for 30 educational professionals from 18 different municipalities in the district in collaboration with the Kornwestheim children's sports school.

Passport offers practical guidance to daycare professionals, parents and club staff

The physical activity passport is an offer to promote physical activity for children between the ages of two and seven. It offers daycare professionals, parents and club staff practical guidance on how to make exercise fun and uncomplicated for children. Interested parties receive a one-day training course and the necessary materials free of charge. The program was developed and evaluated by the Office for Sport and Exercise in Stuttgart.

Mayor Lauxmann was delighted with the project launch in exercise-friendly Kornwestheim. Dr. Karlin Stark, Head of the Department of Health and Consumer Protection, emphasized the importance of exercise in her welcoming address. "With the Bewegungspass, we are creating a framework in the Ludwigsburg district that supports children in their natural urge to exercise. The movement pass is an important building block for the national health goal 'Growing up healthy'".

AOK Ludwigsburg-Rems-Murr supports and funds the project. Thum sees children's health as a task for society as a whole. "As a health insurance company, we are well known for our commitment to prevention and we put this into practice in many different ways in the region. We are very happy to make our contribution and are fully committed to supporting the movement pass so that it can now also gain a foothold in the Ludwigsburg district and motivate our children to take part in sport and exercise," said the head of the prevention division at AOK Ludwigsburg-Rems-Murr.

Four training sessions per year during the four-year project period

The health department of the district administration is planning four training courses per year for professionals in kindergartens and clubs during the four-year project period. "We want to reach as many facilities as possible across the board," emphasizes Dr. Uschi Traub, Head of Health Promotion at the Health Department. A maximum of 30 professionals can be certified per training course.

The educational professionals who traveled to the Kornwestheim children's sports school for the first certification agreed that the movement pass is a great concept. Kerstin Fischer-Haag from Kinderhaus Korntal is also delighted with the new inspiration: "With very little effort and few materials, an incredible amount can be achieved to make exercise fun for the children. The input and the practical training were really impressive."

"I got so many new ideas and inspiration that I can put into practice straight away," says Maja Kreß from the Wiesenklecks nature kindergarten in Kirchheim. "I'm also an athletics coach in my spare time and will be using the new game ideas directly with the children in training this evening."

The developmental stage of each individual child is taken into account

The movement pass does not tell the children what they have to be able to do and how well they have to do it compared to other children, but is based on each child's individual level of development. Annette from Kiga Sonnenhaus in Ludwigsburg is certain that the concept motivates the children to get moving and that they have fun doing it.

Since its introduction in 2016, over 400 municipalities, towns and city districts have now taken part and the Bewegungspass is used by over 1,550 participating daycare centers, i.e. almost one in five daycare centers in Baden-Württemberg.
