Impulses to strengthen cycling

In some district municipalities, the minimum number of participants in the bicycle climate test has not yet been reached. District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier is therefore calling on citizens to take part in the vote in large numbers by the end of November.

A smiling adult and child, both wearing helmets, stand beside bicycles in a park setting. The adult is assisting the child, who appears excited and confident on their small bike, while greenery and a building are visible in the background.

Every two years, the ADFC Cycling Climate Test gives cyclists the opportunity to rate the bicycle friendliness of towns and municipalities and thus provide the administration with impetus to strengthen cycling.

"Sustainable mobility is very important to us in the district of Ludwigsburg," emphasizes District Administrator Dietmar Allgaier. "Measures to promote cycling are being implemented in several places on district, state and federal roads as well as in the municipalities. So that we can continue to improve, I would ask all cyclists in the district to take a few minutes to complete the ADFC Cycling Climate Test and give the administration valuable feedback for further work."

In 2020, around 230000 cyclists rated the bicycle friendliness of over 1000 cities and municipalities in the last Bicycle Climate Test. At least 50 votes per municipality are required for the feedback to be counted. In some towns and municipalities in the district, this minimum number of participants has already been reached, in others only a few participants are still missing, for example in Asperg, Besigheim, Marbach, Remseck, Schwieberdingen and Steinheim. However, it is also still possible to assess the cycling climate in other district municipalities, which increases the informative value.

The ADFC Bicycle Climate Test asks 27 questions about the bicycle friendliness of the local area. This year, there are additional questions that are particularly aimed at the needs of smaller towns in rural areas. These include whether central destinations such as schools, shopping facilities or workplaces are easily accessible by bike, how safe the routes to neighboring towns feel, whether bicycle parking spaces are available at train stations for commuters and the independent mobility of children and young people.
