The partnership with the city of Yichang in Hubei Province, central China, began in the early 1990s. Initial contacts followed in 1991 and a professional exchange between the 1st People's Hopital Yichang and the Clinic Ludwigsburg began subsequently.
The city of Yichang is located in the west of the Chinese province of Hubei and has over 4 million inhabitants. It lies on the Yangtze River, the longest river in Asia. The province is known for the Three Gorges Dam completed in 2008.
A cooperation agreement with the city of Yichang has been in place since 1995, which mainly provides for cooperation in the areas of health care, culture and vocational education.
For more than 25 years now, reciprocal secondments for specialists and nursing staff have taken place at the 1st People's Hospital Yichang and the Clinic Ludwigsburg, where specialists exchange information on the latest medical developments in the treatment of patients with a wide variety of illnesses. In addition, there are regular visits from Yichang to the county and delegations from the county of Ludwigsburg who travel to China.
For some years now, several schools[1]in the county have maintained partnerships with schools in the Hubei region that keep the friendship and exchange alive and at the same time offer our students opportunities for the practical application and deepening of their language skills. The Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Marbach, for example, offers Chinese as a third foreign language and enables pupils to get to know the country and its people every year through an exchange.
