Federal elections

on 24 September 2017

The Basic Law (i.e. the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany) specifies the time frame in which a Bundestag election must take place (Art. 39 para. 1 Basic Law).

In an order dated 23 January 2017, the Federal President set the election day of the coming Bundestag elections at 24 September 2017.

Irrespective of the election date, the elections for the Representatives' Assembly may not take place earlier than 29 months after the start of the Bundestag's election period, i.e. for the coming Bundestag elections as of 23  March 2016. The elections for the candidates themselves may take place no earlier than 32 months after the start of the election period, i.e. 23 June 2016 (Section 21 (3) Cl. 3 of the Federal Electoral Act).

Constituency division

Pursuant to § 1 of the Federal Electoral Act, the German Bundestag consists of 598 Members of Parliament, of whom 299 are elected on the basis of county election nominations in the constituencies and the remainder on the basis of state election nominations.

The county of Ludwigsburg is divided into two constituencies: No. 265 Ludwigsburg and No. 266 Neckar-Zaber.

Constituency No. 265 Ludwigsburg includes the cities and municipalities of:
Asperg, Ditzingen, Eberdingen, Gerlingen, Hemmingen, Korntal-Münchingen, Kornwestheim, Ludwigsburg, Markgröningen, Möglingen, Oberriexingen, Remseck am Neckar, Schwieberdingen, Sersheim and Vaihingen an der Enz

In addition, the following towns and municipalities from the county of Böblingen belong to constituency No. 265 Ludwigsburg: Weissach

Constituency No. 266 Neckar-Zaber includes the towns and communities of:
Affalterbach, Benningen am Neckar, Besigheim, Bietigheim-Bissingen, Bönnigheim, Erdmannhausen, Erligheim, Freiberg am Neckar, Freudental, Gemmrigheim, Großbottwar, Hessigheim, Ingersheim, Kirchheim am Neckar, Löchgau, Marbach am Neckar, Mundelsheim, Murr, Oberstenfeld, Pleidelsheim, Sachsenheim, Steinheim an der Murr, Tamm and Walheim

In addition, the following towns and communities from the county of Heilbronn belong to constituency No. 266 Neckar-Zaber: Abstatt, Beilstein, Brackenheim, Cleebronn, Flein, Güglingen, Ilsfeld, Lauffen am Neckar, Leingarten, Neckarwestheim, Nordheim, Pfaffenhofen, Talheim, Untergruppenbach and Zaberfeld
